Flegrei CampsCampi FlegreiAgave Hotel Residence Inn is located in an area of great historical, artistic and cultural value.
The "Phlegrean Fields" (Greek phlegraiios = burning), so called by the ancient Greeks to indicate the volcanic nature of the territory, have been the seat of primitive and mythical populations. Pozzuoli, the ancient Puteoli Romana, with its port was the main crossroads of trade in the Mediterranean, preserves important testimonies of the past as the excavations of the "Land Rione" revealing an "underground Pompeii", the Flavian Amphitheater, the Serapion. The whole volcanic wound to the west of Naples is rich in archaeological sites and natural beauties: the Solfatara, the lakes of Averno, Lucrino and Fusaro, the Cuma with the Antro of the Sibilla, the Bay with the numerous remains of thermal spa of the Roman era. PozzuoliCampi FlegreiEmporio of the powerful Cuma, only with the arrival of the Samoan refugees (530 ° aC) who gave to the locality the august name of Dicearchy (right government), was increased the economic and urban growth of the city.
In 421 BC, the entire Flemish area fell under the rule of the belligerent populations and, in 338, under that of Rome,
who understood the commercial and military importance of the Gulf of Flegrean only after the attempt to conquer Annibale (215 BC) Puteoli (small wells) became the most important port of the Mediterranean, so much so that it could be called Delus minor and litora mundi hospita. The arts of glass, ceramics, perfumes, textiles, colors and iron were widely distributed, with the presence of local workers educated in Phoenician, Hellenistic and Egyptian traditions. Through its port, Puteoli also assimilated the signs of other civilizations and religions. In fact, it is historically established that Saint Paul's seven-day stay, which in 61, already found a community of Christians. The city prospered until the port replied to the needs of Roman commerce, but suffered a tough blow with the opening of Ostia. With the accentuation of descending bradisism, which submerged port works, and with the fall of Rome (476 BC), Puteoli became a small fishing center and, in the Middle Ages, the Phlegrean Fields were merely the destination of short term stays. Only after the eruption of Monte Nuovo (1538), Pozzuoli began a slow socio-economic-urban recovery, by the Spanish viceroy Don Pedro Alvarez de Toledo.

Astroni

By sturnis, by the abundance of birds, or sorcerers, sorcerers, is a beautiful and intact crater with lush vegetation rich in holm oaks, chestnut trees, oaks, elms and poplars.

Solfatara
The Solfatara volcano, from the elliptical crater (770 x 580 m) dates back to about 4000 years ago and is the only one of the Phlegrean Fields still active with impressive fumarolic manifestations. The last eruption, otherwise historically untested, dates back to 1198. The Flavian Amphitheater
Flavian Amphitheater
Started under Nero, it was completed by Vespasian (69-79 dC); measure m. 149 x 116 (arena m 75 x 42) and could hold about 20,000 viewers. Well preserved the underground where it was possible to study the complex lifting system of the cages with the belve. In 305, under the persecution of Diocletian, seven Christian martyrs were exposed in the arena: the Beneventans Gennaro, Festo and Desiderio, the Sosso misinate, and the Paloolani Procolo, Eutiche and Acuzie,
then decapitated near the Solfatara.Sample of serapide
Serapide Temple
During the excavation (1750) a statue of the Egyptian god Serapis was found, and therefore it was considered improperly a "temple". It is the macellum (market) attached to the port area (I-II sec. BC). The three cherry marble columns have evident traces of holes practiced by the lithodomies that testify to the alterna- tional bradisismic movement of the area.
The tabernae develop around a large porch, at the center of which stands a tholos, enclosed by four colossal columns, of which three still stand still. The vast traces of the marble floor and the lining of the toilets are the testimony of an incomparable architectural wealth of the monument.

Land Wars
First urban settlement, acropolis, fortress, castrum and religious center, the Terra district preserves vivid traces of the 194th century road plant. As a result of bradyism, it was evacuated on March 2, 1970 and, for some years, after a long period of abandonment and abandonment, the ongoing recovery and enhancement work has been started. There is currently a long section of the interesting underground archaeological trail. The itinerary begins with a wide Door of Door and, after a detour to visit the underground rooms (horrea) of Palazzo Migliaresi,
it develops along a wide decumano, considered the maximus, flanked by tabernae, intersecting with a narrow hinge. At the intersection there is the entrance to the public baths which, through a rapid staircase, led to the upper floor. In the early section of the Decumanus, the pedestrianization work (implemented in the Neronean period) is evident, with the creation of a portico on the left side that shrouded the roadside. There are numerous cisterns at various levels of different epochs, for collecting rainwater, indispensable for the life of the citadel, many of which, along with some cryptoportic, were destined for common graves. The state of preservation of the urban structure, the building stratification, the perfect sewerage system, the pistrinum (miller-baker's shop), with the mills still intact, the neighbors
and numerous small environments attributed to a lupanare or a lodging facility.
Then comes down to the hypogeum larvar, richly decorated (twelve gods and fatigues of Hercules), and goes back to the decumano of Via Duomo.
We recommend visiting the Archaeological Museum of the Flegrei Fields in the Castle of Baia, to admire the many works discovered on the Terra Rione,
among which the beautiful trusty head of Athena Lemnia.this example of august
Temple of Augustus
Always on the Land Reveal, brought to light after the cathedral's fire (May 16-17, 1964), the so-called "Augustus Temple" is the Capitol of the republican city. To the wish of the rich merchant Lucio Calpurnio, he was rebuilt by architect Lucio Cocceio Acuto in the Augustan age in beautiful Corinthian forms; it was adapted to a Christian church between the fifth and sixth centuries and baroqued under the bishop of Martino de León and Càrdenas (1631-1650).

Temple of Neptune
The construction of this monument dates back to Adriano's era (II century BC).
It is a vast archaeological complex and one of the most impressive thermal establishments of the ancient Puteoli.loago d'averno
Lake D'Averno
It is the Phoenician place that most evokes Homer, Virgil and the worship of the overblown, because it was considered the entrance to Hades. It is a lake of volcanic origin, deep in the center m. About 34. In 37 BC, on the idea of Marco Vipsanio Agrippa, it was connected to the sea through Lake Lucerne, with a large canal to create a colossal arsenal (Portus Julius) Along the east bank of Lake D'Averno, you admire the grand spa ,
known as "Temple of Apollo", of Adrian age, covered by a dome with a diameter of about 38 meters,
a little lower than that of the Pantheon in Rome.

Monte Nuovo
It is the youngest mountain in Europe (height 140), formed by the eruption of September 29-30, 1538, which, preceded by numerous earthquakes, buried the spa resort of Tripergole and caused Pozzuoli to flee.
An interesting Oasis Naturalistica was inaugurated on its slopes in 1996, in order to preserve the geological, botanical and zoological resources of the Flegrei Campuses.

Portus Julius
In the 37 BC, during the civil war between Ottaviano and Sesto Pompeo, strategist Marco Vipsanio Agrippa built a great portus Portus Julius, which was used as an arsenal of the Misero fleet, connecting Lake Averno, Lake Lucrino and the sea. As a result of descending bradysism, much of the Portus Julius is now submerged; in fact, between Baia and Pozzuoli there are impressive traces of port facilities and some suburban suburbs.porto julius
Happy Bow
The magnificent construction is a viaduct and a protective work of the hill cut of Monte Grillo, to allow a smooth passage of Via Domitiana (95 dC), with a m. 20 and wide m. 6.CumacumaFrom the origins of the city, the most likely hypothesis is that it was founded around the 8th century BC from the inhabitants of nearby Pithekoussai (Ischia) coming from euboeic cities of Calcid and Eretria. Cuma, soon enough, became a thriving city
and powerful, extending its boundaries to the Phlegrean and Parthenopean golfers. The story of Cuma, with the fall in the hands of the Bells (421 BC), blends with that of Dicearchy. Towards the end of the republic, when Puteoli became the main port of Rome, Cuma decays in a short time and was remembered only as a quiet, lonely and cultured place for the presence of the orbiter of the Sibyl. In the Middle Ages it became a stable dwelling of predons that were buried by a bell alloy in 1207, with the total destruction of the city.

Temple of Jupiter
The Greek temple (V century BC), traditionally attributed to Jupiter, remains only the podium track. In the fifth century it was transformed into a Christian basilica, of which there were considerable traces and the original baptistery. On the lower terrace lies the temple of Apollo, whose legendary construction is attributed to the mythical Dedalo, which landed here after the fabulous flight from Crete, and of which there are few traces in the stand because it was adapted to a Christian church in the fifth century. of the sibilla
Antro of the Sibyl
The monument, all dug in the tuff, fascinates and cares for fear, for the mystery atmosphere that surrounds it.
According to Virgil's description (Eneide, book VI), it is right in this place to look for the seat of the legendary Apollo Priestess. But it could also be a rare example of funerary inspiration architecture
Cretan-Mycenaean. A long corridor (dromos). 131.50, wide m. 2.40 and high about m. 5, trapezoidal in shape and illuminated by six side openings, leads to an arched environment in which another more space is faced.
Recent studies attribute to the structure a defensive function of the underlying port area. fusar lake
Lake Fusaro
The lagoon of the lagoon, considered in antiquity by Acherusia Palus, houses the Royal Casino in its mirror of water, designed by architect Carlo Vanvitelli (1782). Bajalago fusaro The name of this beautiful creek is linked to the legendary journey of Ulysses here burying his comrade Bajos. The moon of the mighty Cuma was the most decadent and popular place for its environmental delights
and for the well-known thermal springs, so that Horace could exclaim:
Nullus in orbas sinus Bais praelucet amoenis (no place in the world surpasses the beautiful Bay).
As a result of bradysism, much of the city is now submerged by the sea
Baia Park
It is a complex yet to be identified in its functions for the particular distributive typologies of environments:
some scholar suggests that it is the Imperial Palace. It is evident, however, the spa resort of some technically elaborate halls, such as the dome of the "Temple of Mercury" (diameter m 21, 46). Four complexes have been recognized, traditionally called "temples": Diana, Mercury, Venus Sosandra and Venus.

Aragonese castle
Dominates the Gulf of Pozzuoli in a strategic position. Already in the Aragonese era, it was expanded by the Spanish viceroy Don Pedro de Toledo, after the eruption of Monte Nuovo (1538). Military Orphanage from 1927, in 1993 a large part of the castle was used as Archeological Museum. Archaeological Museum
archaeological Museum
The expanding museum is home to, among other things, the finds of the Augustelli sacre at Misero, with reconstruction
of the pediment, and the fragments of the bronze equestrian monument of Domiziano-Nerva, numerous castings of Greek sculpture plaster found in Baia and the beautiful scenery of the Nymphoet sea of Punta Epitaffio, with the stately statues.
In another wing of the museum, the works from excavations, which are still in progress,
of the Land ward to Pozzuoli. The Mineno and Bacolimiseno bacoliMiseno owes its name to the Homeric legend which here puts the sepulcher of Ulysses' companion, transformed by Virgil into the trumpet of Aeneas. Already a Cuma dock, Miseno had a prominent place in the Augustan military organization.
At the design of Marco Vipsanio Agrippa there was installed the naval base of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Among Classis Misenensis prefects are Tiberius Claudio Aniceto, who sent his assassins to murder Agrippina, Mother of Nero, and Pliny the Elder who died during the eruption of Vesuvius (79 AD). Among the sumptuous villas was the one of the dictator Caio Mario,
then bought by Lucullo, where he died in 37 AD, Emperor Tiberius. The present-day Bacoli village (empty = empty and deserted land; boaulia = oxen stall, in memory of the Ercole stop with herbs removed from Gerione) developed around the church of S.Anna and became an autonomous commune on March 19 1919.piscina mirabilis
Pool Mirabilis
The huge reservoir, the Serino aqueduct's arrival point, made in the Augustan age, is all dug into the tuff bench. Along m. 70, wide m. 25.50, high m. 15, with a cover resting on 48 cruciform pillars, could contain about 12,600 cubic meters of water for the refueling of the misinate fleet. Procidamonte's Procidamonte Bridge Procida di Procida The town of Monte Procida developed around the church of Santa Maria Assunta in Cielo , erected in 1664
to meet the religious needs of Procyclical settlers. With the slow and gradual expansion of the building, even the church underwent radical extensions and refurbishments. Mount of Procida became autonomous on 27 January 1907.
