HEADLINES ISLANDS
Island of Capo Rizzuto is a beautiful town with tourist and agricultural vocation, formerly surrounded by walled walls. It dominates a large plain and its surface has a unique morphology, characterized by shelves at different dimensions and all degrading towards the Ionian Sea. Still today it is wondering why the town of Capo Rizzuto Island has such a denomination. Usually in search of the origins of any country or city inevitably falls into legend or even myth. This is the case for our little town.
Among the hypotheses most appropriate by the researchers is that they derive the name of the Island from the fact that Insula enjoyed the right of asylum, from the vulgarization of the Asylos (protection, shelter) as it was called this site. So the first citation of the town of Isola is found in the ninth century in the list of Greek bishops' bishops and subordinate to Constantinople. Already beneath the Papal Lion VI (886-912) we find it under the name of Aisylorum as one of the four Vesuvius seats (suppressed in 1818) of the Suffragan of the Siberene Subway (Santa Severina). In 1172 it was called Asila and later, during the transition from Greek to Latin, it passed to Isula's name. Later Normans assigned it to Crotone and so called Insula Cutroni. Only in 1863 it will take its current denomination. The history of this land is quite complex and also impressive if you think of its subjection to the Turks, malaria and misery. It was the land of all and none, passed from one feudal to another, from one family to another. It was a fief and as such an object of exchange: in 1264 he went to Ruffo for services rendered against the Swabians. Then he was inherited by Enrichetta Ruffo who brought him into dowry in the marriage with Centelles but this was defeated by Alfonso d'Aragona who then destined to the Regio Demanio. Then in 1483 King Ferdinand I of Aragon granted the feud of Isola to Giovanni de Pou and from 1495 passed to the Rich to Caracciolo. From 1806 it became the possession of Alfonso Barracco, the last feudal lord. And then it is a story of our days: so many years of anger and misery, the Agrarian Reform, the assignment of lands, the resumption of agriculture, the abandonment towards the north industry and today the tourist development with the preciousness of its sea, its shores, the Marina Reserve and so many tourist complexes also of international level. The sea area of Capo Rizzuto is one of the most fascinating protected areas of the whole Mediterranean, whose beauty is immediate revelation: the eye distinguishes first the authentic and changing tones of heaven and sea, then the rocks, the clay, the sand from which they seem to exhale the scents of a time and the meanings of the past. The short stretch of coastline, gorgeous and fragile, offers countless paths above and below the sea. There are many places to visit are the Matrix Church (Cathedral), St. Mark's Church and the Bishop's Palace, seat of various bishops. Among them we can remember Saint Luke of Malicuccas, the first bishop of Isola, Annibale Caracciolo, Francesco Marino, Giuseppe Lancellotti and Michelangelo Monticelli. The island of Capo Rizzuto has a very wide territory and includes countless tourist sites, including Le Castella, Capo Rizzuto, Marinella, Le Cannella. Diamond point not only at the provincial level is certainly the fraction of Le Castella whose origins are lost in a mix of mythology and history. You can visit the famous and fascinating Aragonese Castle, divided by the mainland by a wire. Built by Andrea Caraffa for the continuous rails of the gate, the sixteenth century manor remains today a fascinating place to visit. In Le Castella is also the bust of Uccialì, of castellian origin, King of Tripoli, Tunis and Algiers. His real name was Giovanni Dionigi Galeni, commander of the imperial fleet of Constantinople. Corsaro, known under various names (Uccialì, Luccialì, Occhialì), deplorable of the true Arabic name "Uluch Alì" (a Muslim name that is also written in other ways: Uluc Alì, Uluj Alì, Ulug Alì, Ulugh Alì, or "Alì the Rinnegato "), born around 1507 in Le Castella (fraction of Isola di Capo Rizzuto), was captured by Ottoman Corps in one of their many plunder. He later became a Muslim religion and admiral of the Sultan fighting against the Christian fleet of Andrea Doria; (1551), the Battle of the Gerbe (1560), the siege of Malta (1565), the battle of Lepanto (1571) (where he commanded the left wing of the Ottoman fleet) , the taking of Goletta and Tunis (1574). He died in Constantinople in 1587 after building a beautiful mosque known for its name in Topkhane. His bones rest in a monumental sarcophagus in the Sophia-Sofia Mosque Church in Istanbul. Another important reality of the island area is Capo Rizzuto. Known for its tourist vocation, it is worth visiting the Old Tower and the Watchtower. But its importance is closely linked to the cult of the Greek Madonna. The existence of the miraculous picture of the Blessed Virgin, venerated under the title of Madonna Greca, patron saint of Capo Rizzuto Island, lends itself to various legends, such as the beach find of the same effigy. Visit the famous Church of Capo Rizzuto, rebuilt on the ruins of an ancient Pagan temple and the Sanctuary dedicated to the Greek Lady.

• Accoglienza: discreta, eccezion fatta per la signora che ci ha ricevuti, non conosce la parola umiltà, pecca troppo di presunzione e saccente è il giusto termine da attribuirgli;
• camera: buona nel complesso;
• piscine: discrete e sufficientemente mantenute;
• Ristorazione: discreta, potrebbero fare qualcosa in più;
• Camerieri: cordialissimi
• Animazione: buona/discreta;
• pulizia e cura del verde: buona/discreta;
• mare: pietosa la caletta del villaggio, buona la spiaggia e i servizi del lido a pagamento (5 o 10 € per ½ o giornata intera), scadente la qualità dell’acqua dovuta alla presenza di un canale agricolo che scaricava a mare acqua verdognola poco a monte del lido. un giorno che ci siamo spostati sull’altro versante del canale a circa 2 km in prossimità della località Le Castella, acqua spettacolare;
• Rapporto qualità/prezzo: buono e proporzionato ai limiti e carenze giudizi sopra evidenziati;

saluti.
