Holidays in Calabria: from the Tyrrhenian coast to the Ionian coast

If the summer holiday matches with the sea, you can hardly think of a destination other than Calabria, the perfect destination for a low cost holiday in a hotel or in one of the villages.

Very particular region that is characterized by the heterogeneity of the landscapes and the constant proximity of the mountains to the sea: wherever you are, you can see the sea, both along the coast and inland.

With its 800 km of coastline, this region is certainly the perfect destination for everyone, both for young couples and families. In fact, there are many hotels and villages in Calabria that alternate along the Tyrrhenian coast and along the Ionian coast . Very different from each other, but equally beautiful and fascinating.

Tyrrhenian coast

The coastline overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea is characterized by rugged mountains that plunge directly into the blue and crystalline sea, leaving, from time to time, space to enchanting golden beaches. The must-see is the Costa degli Dei, which stretches from Pizzo Calabro to Nicotera, including Tropea.

Pizzo Calabro, located south of the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia, offers a spectacular view of the Tyrrhenian coast. This is not a simple city, but a country built on a small cliff overlooking two bays. What makes Pizzo famous in the world is definitely the truffle ice cream, which will tempt even the less gluttonous during the stay.

Tropea, without delay, is one of the most beautiful places in Italy. The village is perched on a rocky spur under which there is a wonderful beach, recently inserted among the most beautiful winds in Europe by the Sunday Times.

Always on the Tyrrhenian side, how not to name Diamante, Paola and Amantea that contribute to enrich the whole area with their beauties.

Although belonging to Sicily, the Aeolian Islands, are located a few miles from the Italian peninsula. The Tyrrhenian coast is an excellent starting point for reaching terrestrial paradises such as Stromboli, Lipari and Panarea.

Ionian coast

On the Ionian side, however, to rule it we find long beaches of golden sand, like the Island of Capo Rizzuto, alternating with poetic beaches of white and polished stones, like Roseto Capo Spulico.

Between Catanzaro and Soverato, near Squillace, Caminia is a popular destination for young people who prefer a holiday full of fun. Instead, for those who prefer a relaxing holiday suitable for families, even with children, we recommend the beaches of Roccella Jonica and Copanello di Staletti .

In short, whatever the chosen destination for your holiday in Calabria, finding a crystalline and unforgettable sea is a certainty. To date, in fact, there are 7 "Blue Flags" that have been assigned to the Calabrian localities.

Not just the sea: the Sila, an extraordinary historical heritage and the chilli pepper

If it is true that the summer holiday coincides with the sea, often the winter holiday goes hand in hand with the white week and this beautiful region allows you to spend your holidays wearing skis and snowboards.

La Sila is the perfect destination for those who love spending their holidays in the mountains in both summer and winter and is a real reference point for all the southern tourists who do not want to reach the Apennines of Abruzzo or even the Alps.

Beyond the natural beauties and the wide variety of the offer that manages to provide this territory, you can not forget the immense historical heritage and the many food and wine varieties. Some exhibits have helped make the whole region famous throughout the world, such as the Riace Bronzes : two bronze statues of Greek origin, rediscovered off the town that gives them their name and arrived in a state of conservation awesome.

To make Calabria famous, they also contributed the 'nduja and the chili , products of extraordinary excellence that are never lacking on the table. Not to mention the Tropea onion and many other products, especially from local agriculture.

A holiday in Calabria satisfies everyone. Whatever the expectations are, you never get disappointed, but you come back.
