The excavations to bring back the civitas antiquity began in the eighteenth century and continue today. They allowed to visit the remains of ancient Pompeii, buried by the volcanic lava following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AC, and many frescoes, baths, forums and villas built by the Romans in the 80's
