Capo Vaticano and its surroundings
The high granite spur, jagged, with a quadrangular base, starting from the Appennino Calabrese stretches over the Tyrrhenian Sea, just across the Aeolian Islands, is geographically known as the headland of Capo Vaticano. it divides the gulfs of Santa Eufemia and Gioia Tauro. On this promontory lies the Commune of Ricadi, with an area of 2.230 hectares at an altitude of 237 meters above sea level, with a population of just over 4.000 inhabitants.
Famous are the towns that make it out of bounds, Tropea to the north, Joppolo to the south, Spilinga and Drapia to the east. For about twenty years Capo Vaticano has set itself in the attention of the great holiday flow for its particular sea beauties. In fact, the sea is the main attraction of all those who, every year, increasingly choose these places to spend their holidays. In the clear sea, castagnole flocks are undisturbed, flocks of eyes and saraghs wander around the perimeter of the cliff. on the bottom there are large shoots. The flora is particularly developed, made up of the green of the posidonie. On the walls of the rocks grow like magnificent flowers: spirographs, nudibranches, vermocans, attinie, madrepore, crinoids dancing over the black and white curls, purple red sea stars break with the color the monotony of the granite rock.
