Mandatoriccio was founded at the beginning of the 17th century by Teodoro Mandatoriccio, Lord of Crosia, to make the existence of those working in that part of his feud more comfortable. The area, however, has been inhabited since ancient times, as the archaeological finds found near the locality point out. The name, which reflects the surname of the founder, is reported by some to the Latin MANDATORICIUS, by MANDATOR, 'suborner', and by others to the Greek "mandràtoras", having the meaning of 'master of a mandra'. Transformed into a fortified site, with the construction of a castle, it belonged to the Mandatoriccio family until its extinction, which occurred in the second half of the seventeenth century. Later it went to the noble Sambiase family of Cosenza, via female succession, who held it until the abolition of feudalism, ratified by Napoleonic laws. The French at the beginning of the nineteenth century made of it a university of the so-called Cariati government and then a town of the district belonging to this center, whose jurisdiction was also maintained by the Borbone, who also cut Pietrapaola, formerly united to the territory of Mandatoriccio, out. Annexed to the Kingdom of Italy, along with the rest of the region, it participated to the following national and international events. At the end of the 1920s, Pietrapaola was again reunited to Mandatoriccio, only to be detached again in 1934. Among the historical and architectural testimonies are the church parish, where you can admire an artistic wooden ceiling; the ruins of the castle, with a cylindrical tower; the 17th century farm-fortress of the Mandatoriccio family and the remains of megalithic walls around the town.
