Belvedere Marittimo and surroundings
Belvedere Marittimo is a town of 9.318 inhabitants in the province of Cosenza. The town is divided into two distinct parts: the medieval village, which stands on a rocky projection about 150 meters above sea level, and the part that stands on the coast, called Belvedere Marina, built in the newer era and which houses equipment and tourist residences.
The town enjoys a particularly mild winter climate and warm summers, but it does not torride. One of the oldest monuments is the Rosary church, whose sandstone portal is engraved in the year 1091.
In Contrada Rocca there is a Roman quadrangular observation tower. In the ancient part is the castle, of Norman origin, but reconstructed by the Aragonese.
In addition, there is the birthplace of San Daniele Fasanella, patron of the place. An important wooden crucifix dating back to some in the seventeenth century is present in the homonymous church located in the historic center of the country. Part of the municipal territory of Belvedere Marittimo is included in the protected area of Pollino National Park.
