Pescocostanzo: 5 km
Among the hotels closest to Pescocostanzo, Hotel Trieste will be very easy to reach this ancient village, with its ever-green charm, whose foundation dates back to the tenth century. From the first centuries it proved to be prevalent in the surrounding centers, but showing intrusive relationships with feudal and religious institutions. The important date for the city was that of 1774, when Pescocostanzo assumed the title of Universitas Sui Domina (a community of mistress of self), a motto that still cares for the municipal coat of arms, thus redeemed by feudal rule.
At that time, legal, philosophical, historical, mathematical, literary studies and a remarkable cult of art were welcomed in society. To witness the local culture there are the bookshops kept at many families and the numerous elected craftsmen flourished in Pescocostanzo. The presence of a large number of works of art in the small hamlet of Aquila is explained by two factors: the considerable economic resources of public institutions and executives and the availability of craftsmen able to carry out works of stone, marble, wrought iron and wood, handicraft traditions handed down after the immigration of the Lombard mausoleums between the 15th and the 17th century.
Choosing to sleep at Hotel Trieste di Roccaraso you will be able to stay just a stone's throw from Pescocostanzo, so you can visit it and discover the beauties and treasures that the village cares.
Castel di Sangro: 10 KM
Piazza Plebiscito is home to a 1898 fountain and the church of San Giovanni Battista; soon after, these two notable monuments are the Palazzo De Petra, a 13th century building that is home to the Patiniana Pinacoteca, dedicated to Teofilo Patini, a renowned artist who was born here.
Santa Maria Assunta is the most important Church of Castel di Sangro and is located in the ancient nucleus of the Alta Civita.
A special mention is the Aufidenate Civic Museum, located in the convent of Maddalena, in which are preserved remarkable archaeological finds such as Romanesque statues, tombstones, bronzes including the famous "Torn Sannita".
Lake Barrea (Abruzzo National Park): 37 KM
The lake is born from the barrier of the river Sangro at the mouth of Barrea (hence the name). Near the lake there are three countries that overlook it, Barrea, Civitella Alfedena and Villetta Barrea. These are fascinating places as they still preserve the soul of the ancient Apennine villages that once stood near what is today the National Park of Abruzzo.
In Barrea, in particular, stands the "Study", an ancient Benedictine monastery, the church of St. Thomas the Apostle dating back to the 15th century, the Church of the lake and the medieval tower. Here is the Rapaci Center, a place enchanted because it is here that the biggest observation and panoramic views of the mouths of the Foce are opened. At Villetta Barrea there are finally interesting houses of the '500 and the churches of S. Maria, S. Michele, S. Sebastiano and S. Rocco. From Lake Barrea you can then make interesting hiking through the trails that lie in the mountains, in search of the numerous and precious fauna of the Park.

The most important monument is the church of S. Maria della Valle, in which the marble and wood furnishings are the work of famous artists of Pescocostanzo and the Bencivenga, Raiano healers.
Other precious sacred buildings are S. Eustachio (with baroque interior), S. Maria delle Grazie and S. Antonio da Padova, frescoed in the first decades of the 18th century by Giambattista Gamba. Nearby is the picturesque little church of Madonna del Lago (the Nunciata), on the shores of the large water mirror that has been named after Scanno.
