Terni
Terni is a city with a high rate of industrial development since the nineteenth century, when it played a leading role in the second industrial revolution, when the steel plants were established. Because of its importance it has suffered heavy bombing during World War II by the Allies which, however, that has not prevented it from still remaining one of the hubs of the Umbrian and Italian economy. For this reason it is nicknamed "The Steel" City and the "Italian Manchester". Today, in the twenty-first century, Terni is a completely new city on a human scale, important for its historical, economic, social and natural features. The vast industrial zones, in fact, alternates to green landscapes (especially the Marmore waterfall), evidence of Roman remains, medieval and industrial archeology. It is known worldwide as the "City of Lovers" as its patron saint, St. Valentine, was born and became bishop here, and his remains are still kept in this city. In a quarter of an hour away you can reach the picturesque medieval towns of Narni, Amelia and San Gemini, the Roman city of Carsulae and the beautiful Marmore falls, continuing through the beautiful Valnerina.
