Collazzone and surroundings

Collazzone is located in the center of the town, located on a hill of about 470 meters above sea level, easily reachable for those coming from Perugia or Terni (10 minutes drive from Marsciano exit of the E45 Superstrada) and for those coming from Foligno or Spoleto (about 30 minutes by car). The medieval village still retains the essential features of longobard military architecture, with its medieval walls, embankments, buttresses, still intact turrets, and small and narrow streets. From the walls of the castle it is possible to admire the a wonderful landscape of the Tiber valley, from Perugia to Todi, remaining immersed in the characteristic Umbrian hilly landscape, mixed with woods and lands cultivated according to the traditions of a time. From the main square you access the parish church dedicated to S. Lorenzo Martire, to the portal assigned to Vignola, now the seat of the Town Hall, and to the church of S. Michele Arcangelo. Just outside the walls of the castle lies the convent of S. Lorenzo; first Benedictine abbey, was donated to the bishop of Todi in 1236 and became the residence of Jacopone from Todi, who spent much of Collazzone in his life and died there on Christmas night of 1306.
