Impruneta and surroundings

Impruneta is a beautiful village situated at the beginning of the Chianti hills in the province of Florence, about 17 km. The Basilica of Santa Maria all'Impruneta is the most important historical building in the country, in the Buondelmonti square, on one side of the Basilica are the Pilgrims of the Pellegrino, built between 1643 and 1670. The interior of the Basilica is to a nave and preserves works of considerable prestige including the Nativity of the Virgin of Passignano (1602 ), a San Pietro Vocation by Jacopo Chimenti da Empoli (1606) and two newsstands attributed to Michelozzo and decorated with lighted terracotta by Luca della Robbia that preserve the relics of the True Cross and the image of the Madonna dell'Impruneta. Very interesting is the Treasury Museum of Santa Maria all'Impruneta (Sacred Art Museum), which collects manuscripts, jewelery and other material from the Basilica. In the vicinity of Impruneta there is an important American war cemetery, the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial.
