SAN GIORGIO PALACE HOTEL

The city of Ragusa, the capital of the homonymous province, lies on the southern part of the Iblei Mountains. It is defined as the "island on the island", thanks to its socio-economic context, rich in artistic and cultural heritage. dating back to the earthquake of 1693. It has been declared Unesco Heritage as a precious testimony of Baroque art. Surrounded by a chain of green hills and crossed by the Irminio River, the city is divided between the modern upper and lower part, called Ragusa Ibla, built by the ruins of the ancient city and rebuilt after the earthquake, according to the ancient medieval structure. The Ibla district, an ancient historical center, offers over fifty churches and numerous noble palaces. Situated on a hilltop, the small hamlet dominates the surrounding valley, with its casemates and narrow streets overlooking the majestic Duomo di San Giorgio, the highest expression of the baroque ibleo. The rich limestone local stone architecture takes the form of volutes, and full of columns and capitals, statues and decorations of various kinds.
