Peschici and surroundings
The jagged coastline offers several scenarios: Bays that boast low and sandy beaches open up among the rock walls; these alternate high and steep coastlines with cliffs, coves and small pebble beaches, often reachable only by sea. The landscape is dominated by the greenery of the surrounding pine forest, which in some places also reaches the beach.
The sea in Peschici is particularly clear and offers seasides populated by different species of fish and flora, representing the ideal place for scuba diving and underwater fishing.
Just because of the quality of its waters, the resort has repeatedly gained the important recognition of the Blue Flag.
Peschici is one of the countries that still retains its historical nucleus, which is perched on the cliff walls and extends from the marina to the fortifications of the Swabian castle.
The center of the village is crossed by a series of small lanes, along which there are numerous medieval buildings, and is enriched by hidden squares, cloisters, steep staircases, narrow passages and arches, typical elements of Mediterranean architecture.
The city landscape is characterized by the presence of the typical houses of the Puglia costiera: the white houses surmounted by domes, some of which are built to peak on the sea and make the appearance of the village well recognizable even at a distance.
Among the main places of interest in Peschici, we find the sixteenth century coastal towers, set on top of rocky spurs with sighting function. Among these the most famous is Monte Pucci, from which you can admire a wonderful panorama on the coast.
The numerous natural caves on the coast are certainly one of the most fascinating places in the place: they are beautiful natural environments where valuable archaeological remains are preserved; given their position, some of them are only reachable by the sea.
They are equally interesting to visit the Medieval Castle, rebuilt in the 17th century and the Abbey of Calena, home to a convent of monks now transformed into a private villa.
