Turin

The presence of porches is the distinctive feature of Turin's streets and squares, and makes it a pleasant walk-in area, including historic shops and cafes. The porticos spread from the seventeenth century to the Savoy: today you can leave from Piazza Castello and, on the left side of Via Po, you reach the bottom of Piazza Vittorio Veneto, always covered by vaults. The porticoes welcome those who arrive in Turin by train in any climate: from the two central stations of Porta Nuova and Porta Susa you can easily reach the streets that, connected to each other, allow you to walk through the main streets and squares of the historic center. Here you will find high fashion stores, used car stalls, bars with dehor and many historic cafés, which still retain the charm of the foreground role that they have over the centuries, when politicians and literate men meet at their tables. So in the Subalpina Gallery, the nineteenth-century Baratti & Milano with its fine furnishings, while in Via Po there is the Caffè Fiorio whose ice cream was also appreciated by Nietzsche. In the stunning Piazza San Carlo, entirely pedestrian, there is the homonymous coffee, where the aroma of refined blends blends in with the elegance of the interiors. The assortment of pastry and artisan chocolate is everywhere inviting: cakes and bignè are well married with the Bicerin, a Turinese beverage based on coffee, cream and chocolate, served since the eighteenth century in the local homonym in Piazza della Consolata. With a tour of Turin's museums, the visitor can range from antiquity to the latest expressions of contemporary art. The first unforgettable stop is the Egyptian Museum, dedicated to the art and culture of civilization that flourished along the banks of the Nile. An internationally renowned collection with paintings and sculptures, furnishings, sarcophagi and mummies that have been through the millennia.
To other distant cultures is the MAO, the Museum of Oriental Art set up at Palazzo Mazzonis, in the Roman Quadrilatero. Almost all of the major museums in Turin are located right in the historic districts of the city, and in the central Piazza Castello you can visit both Royal Palace and Armeria and Palazzo Madama with the Civic Museum of Ancient Art. Within a few minutes walk, inside Palazzo Carignano, you will find the National Museum of the Italian Risorgimento, recently reopened. The Sabauda Gallery, the GAM with its modern and contemporary art collections, some foundations such as Merz and Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, offer visitors a journey into the past and present of painting and sculpture. Finally, cinema and car: two great protagonists of the twentieth century. While the Automobile Museum is located in the Lingotto area, in the district that has been the focal point in the industry, the Cinema Museum is housed inside the Mole Antonelliana and shows the seventh art from its origins. Tourists point to the purchase of Turin + Piemonte Card, with two or more days free access to museums and public transport.

A university city with plenty of entertainment venues, Turin offers every season the chance to spend a lively evening with friends. Young people flock, practically every night, the most fashionable areas for nightlife, which in particular on the weekend become a meeting point where events, themed evenings, live music concerts are concentrated. One of the most popular areas is surely Piazza Vittorio Veneto with its neighbors Murazzi, located along the Po. It is the historic heart of night fun, amongst the venues where they danced generations of students and new fashion bars. You can get to the square at the aperitif hour and then go for a cocktail bar before you choose where to go to dance. The area is served by a night bus network, Night Buster, which every Friday and Saturday allows you to comfortably return every hour to other neighborhoods in the city. The nightlife also winds through the restaurants and wine bars of Quadrilatero Romano, the district between Via Garibaldi and Piazza Emanuele Filiberto. Here is also the Obelix, in Savoy Square, a landmark for organizing an aperitif with friends. Likewise, in the San Salvario district, between Porta Nuova and Po, there is the embarrassment of choosing among the many locals for the evening; In the summertime, those inside the Valentino Park are particularly popular. Finally, for those who love live music, two spaces are somewhat decentralized but from rich programming.
