Cavenago di Brianza and surroundings
Cavenago di Brianza is a municipality in the province of Monza and Brianza, in Lombardy. It is part of the territory of Vimercatese. The village is situated between the Molgora torrent and the Walloon valley in the north-east of Milan; Toll booth of the A4 Torino-Venezia highway; Is halfway between Milan and Bergamo, in the territory of Vimercatese. The first historical news dates back to 873 when the archbishop of Milan, Ansperto the Albuzzi from Biassono, bought agricultural funds and emperor Charles the Calvo in the same year attributed other assets to Cavanacum. Three years later the Archbishop left some funds and feudal rights to the hospital and the consecrated monastery of San Satiro in Milan. At their closing all went to the monastery of Sant'Ambrogio. On the origins of the name Cavanacum or Cavenagum there are various hypotheses, one from Cà venationis, in reference to the rich game present in the rich bush, and another to Cà vinationis, referring to the numerous vineyards once present and also cited by Carlo Porta. The village in some papers is called Castellum or Castrum, of which there is no trace, in defense of the raids of the armies of Federico the Barbarossa. In 1800 the name Brianza was added to the original denomination to distinguish it from Cavenago d'Adda, Municipality of Lodi Province.
