Castro dei Volsci

The municipality of Castro dei Volsci lies in the eastern part of the province of Frosinone, situated on a rocky spur over which stands the historic center, and a rich plain bordered by the river Sacco. When in 1872 the municipal councilors added to the traditional Castro the "Volsci" specification, they intended to avoid confusion with other homonymous localities united by the same military derivation, pointing out, moreover, the classical origins of the site. Volsci's casket was raised at the center of a a complex road network: at the foot of the hill there is the ancient Roman road that from Anagni, passing through Ceccano, continues to Fregellae; Two more roads are to be built: one leads to Vallecorsa, Fondi and Gaeta, and the other, which runs through the valley of the Amalfi, leads to the Pontina Plain.

The Living Nativity

The traditional event that takes place every year at Castro dei Volsci (Fr) involves over a hundred figures who animate about forty scenes and revive, in this small Bethlehem nostrano, glimpses of daily life of a typical cocaraar community typical of the early years of ' Eight hundred. All the representation is inserted inside the natural scenery of the old town where alleys, bows, narrow streets, cellars, stables, characteristic and unusual corners are revived thanks to the Nativity scene and are made even more striking by Roman lights and torches. Scenarios are being set up that showcase and revive ancient crafts, scenes of peasant and craft life are recreated, up to the manger in which the baby is laid, a real newborn baby with both mom and dad next to him.
