Cesenatico

Modern hotels, restaurants, pubs and a myriad of services are the modern soul of a sparkling and ever-moving city which, however, retains an ancient and suggestive side. In the narrow streets of Cesenatico's historic center it is possible to trace the time and visit:
The Canal Harbor It was built in 1314 for the merchant's need of the city of Cesena to have a seafront. At the beginning of the sixteenth century, Cesare Borgia thought it appropriate to carry out work that provided the port with adequate protection from the violence of the waves, commissioning Leonardo da Vinci. The original of the drawing is kept in Paris at the National Library. The port becomes the main axis on which, over the centuries, the country develops, first as a fishermen's place and merchant cabotage trades, then as a tourist site.
The Marine Museum In the floating museum, the only one in Italy, the prototypes of the boats of the upper and middle Adriatic are exposed (a bragozzo, a trabaccolo, a lance, a horseshoe, a mousetrap, a blade, a bragozzo d ' heights and a transport trolley) restored and rearmed according to the original functions, including sail-colored sails, which replaced the Latin ones before the advent of the engine.

The Floating Nativity Born in 1986 by an idea of Guerrino Gardini and the project of Tinin Mantegazza. In addition to being a strong tourist attraction, it is a work of becoming, a city that is told: fishermen, carpenter, puppeteer, fisherman, woman with piadines, children, musicians. On the boats of the Marineria Museum are accommodated the characters who populate the crib. The construction technique is completely original: the exposed parts, faces, hands, feet carved in the wood of wood, the draped drapery cloth in hot-painted wax painted on wood skeletons made of light metallic wire, shaped in the desired shape . From the seven figures of the first year today, the sculptural heritage is of 37 figures.
Monument to Garibaldi Cesenatico boasts of having erected in 1884, perhaps first in Italy, a monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi. The statue was placed near the Porto-canal, which in 1849 represented the salvation for the hero.
The Church of St. James Built in 1324 and then reconstructed in the 16th century. XVI; the present form is due to a further refinement in 1763. It preserves two paintings by Francesco Andreini of the Cagnacci School.
The Municipal Theater Built with the money of a public subscription by architect Candido Panzani, it was inaugurated in 1865. Damaged by war events, it has been completely restored and has been operating since 1992.
Canned The preserved or glaciers, so named after times and places, were widespread in the Romagna and neighboring coastal areas already in the sec. XVI; they had the specific function, filled with ice or snow, to conserve the fish. Cesenatico has possessed a nourished nucleus (over 20), part still functioning at the beginning of the century, and three are preserved in an appearance close to the original one, witnessing the material culture of its people historically linked to the life of the sea.
Casa Moretti The poet Marino Moretti's home has kept his books and papers. It is currently a center for studies and research on Italian culture in the twentieth century.
Biblioteca comunale - Antiquarium Historical sources and archaeological research testify to the presence in the territory of Cesenatico a small Roman center identifiable in the Republican period (II-I century BC) with the "Tabernae Cossutianae" and then with the "Ad Novas "of the Imperial period (I-IV century AD) reported by" Tabula Peutingeriana "on the route of the Consular Way" Popilia ". Inside the antiquarium is documented archaeological finds relating to this ancient site and a series of mostly precious ceramic materials, dating from the republican roaming age to the entire imperial period, including lucerne, vases, plates , weights and coins. We can see some terracotta statues and fragments of the local "Cà Turchi" furnace.
Frescoes at Piazza del Monte Along Via Baldini, or better in Piazza del Monte, on twelve panels of communal property located on the wall of the Cappuccini Church, local artists (Arfilli, Caimmi, Casali, Cortesi, Di Bartolomeo, Knauf, Mazzanti , Mercuriali, Pericoli, Petrini, Trebbi) in the early 1970s, painted paintings depicting costumes, scenes and landscapes of Cesenatico.
The columns At the sides of the bridge, on the canal harbor, there are two columns of probable Greek-Byzantine origin; they were erected in place during Venetian rule in the early fifties.
