Hotel Campo Imperatore, also known as Albergo di Campo Imperatore, is a hotel located on the edge of the Campo Imperatore plateau, on the slopes of Mount Aquila, in the massive Gran Sasso d'Italia, within the communal territory of the 'Eagle. Built in the 1930s, it is famous for being Benito Mussolini's prison between August 28 and September 12, 1943. Today it is the main resort of the ski resort of the same name, as well as a starting point for hiking on the western side of the Gran Sasso

Campo Imperatore is home to a resident ski resort, the first born in the Apennines and one of the highest in Italy. The ski lifts, which develop at the western end of the plateau, between the valley called Fontari and Monte Scindarella, comprise 3 plants covering a total of 15 km of ski slopes for alpine skiing. they add over 60 km to nordic skiing. It also has a snowboard snow park, with half pipe and boarder cross, and a cross-country ski ring. Wide is also the possibility of mountaineering with different routes available. At the base there is a hostel and the already mentioned Hotel Rifugio Campo Imperatore. The station is connected to the valley by the Gran Sasso cable car and has parking facilities and other facilities in Fonte Cerreto [10]. The station is combined with the ski resorts of Campo Felice and Ovindoli.
