Gioiosa Marea

Gioiosa Marea is a gorgeous village overlooking the sea and the closest land-based town to the Aeolian Islands. It was born at the end of the 18th century when Gioiosa Guardia was destroyed by an earthquake and the inhabitants decided to rebuild the town on the coast. The village boasts many attractions including the ghost town of Guardia that fascinates its visitors and the Aeolian Islands declared by the UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000.
