The town of Bettona can boast ancient Etruscan origins as witness to the imposing walls that surround it, so much so that its foundation dates back to the VIII and VII century BC Too small to choose an independent policy, its fate already started the yards for the construction of the Spoleto fortress. Since then, the history of this ancient village has been linked to the fate of the Pontifical State until the latter's existence. The center of the village admires the architecture of the 14th and 16th centuries, up to Piazza Cavour and Piazza Garibaldi overlooked: the Palazzo Comunale, of the 14th century. which houses a sixteenth-century wooden choir (from the church of S. Antonio) in the Sala Consiliare and some paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries; the Baglioni and Biancalana Palaces. Nearby is also the Palazzo del Podestà, built in the 13th century, home to the Municipal Art Gallery which houses works by Taddeo Gaddi, a "Gonfalone" by Perugino. To see the church of S. Maria Maggiore, of ancient origins, rededicated November 19, 1225 as evidenced by a plaque placed in the sacristy. The interior of the church is embellished by various paintings of the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. while the original Romanesque-Gothic church is still visible in the Chapel of Santa Rita. In the greater altar there is a ciborium of 1590, the work of Bettonese Crucianus Egiduzio. It is also worthy of the church of St. Crispoldo with the beautiful bellied bell tower of the thirteenth century, the organ of 1564 of the Cortonese Cianciulla Romani; the bust, copper, of the eighteenth century. del San Crispolto and near the church a beautiful cloister that preserves two images of "Madonna con Bambino" from the 16th century.
