Piombino and its surroundings

Protossing in the sea, on a promontory facing the Islands of the Tuscan Archipelago, rich in history and protected natural environment, Piombino is one of the places to discover the charm and beauty of the Etruscan Coast. The Etruscan country, whose splendid testimonies are preserved in the archaeological park of Baratti-Populonia, ancient port of Falesia, then Signoria and the Principality with the Appiani, ruled at the beginning of the 1800's by Elisa Bonaparte, Napoleon's sister, Piombino preserves numerous historical and artistic testimonies of the medieval and Renaissance times. In the historic center, protected in part by a beautiful walled city, there are many significant monuments such as the Torrione, the Rivellino, the ancient churches, the Sources of Marina, where ships were supplied and the 14th century Casa delle Bifore. It dates back to 1800 at the Palazzo Nuovo, inside the Fortified Citadel designed with the contribution of Leonardo da Vinci, and the seat of the Archaeological Museum of the Populonia Territory, the main exhibition center of the Val di Cornia Park System, which houses over 2,000 prehistoric finds , Etruscan and Roman. Paving blocks lead to the imposing castle, the seat of the Museum of the City, a splendid building whose original nucleus dates back to 1200. From the Piazza Bovio, overlooking Appian Palace, the look embraces the coast and islands of the Archipelago. Baratti and Populonia - In Baratti and Populonia there are important testimonies of Etruscan and Roman times. In the archaeological park, which extends for about 80 hectares and is visited through organized paths, history and archeology live in a beautiful and uncontaminated landscape. Inside the Park are the remains of industrial buildings of the Etruscan period and a walk on the beach allows you to observe the area of an ancient forge. The monumental necropolis of San Cerbone, the only Etruscan necropolis that has been built in front of the sea, preserves the remains of buildings used for metal processing. On the first hills, quarry areas alternate with the suggestive cave necropolis, made up of chamber tombs excavated in the rock. A paved road, known as Romanella Street, leads from the lower town to the Acropolis. The Monastery's Way allows you to make another jump over time: the Medieval Age of Populonia reveals itself through the remains of the Benedictine monastery of San Quirico, hidden in the woods. In the center of the city is the monumental area with Roman temples overlooking the square and, at the top of the basalt street, the "Front of the Logge". The medieval village of Populonia, surrounded by walls built for the defense of the pirates and dominated by the Rocca, of the first half of the fifteenth century, has paved alleys, small shops and a private museum of Etruscan and Roman finds found in the area and in the sea.

The sea - The Gulf of Baratti, the Buca delle Fate, the Long Beach and those of Cala Moresca, Perelli and Torre Mozza, are just some of the stretches of this coast, famous for their uncontaminated beauty and the fascination that distinguishes them. Sandy beaches and rocky coves follow more than 30 km, surrounded by pine forests and thick Mediterranean scrub. The backdrops are rich in flora and fauna so beautiful to attract enthusiasts from all over the world. All marine sports are practiced here, thanks also to the sailing, surfing and diving schools that are present. It is possible to rent boats, book boat trips or by the sea taxi, even at night.

Piombino is also a well-equipped harbor and an important port for both sailors and those who travel to the islands. On the east coast there are several internal waterways in river water. In the splendid gulf of Salivoli you will find a brand new tourist harbor, ideal for all kinds of boats. The Marine Biology Center hosts a Mediterranean Aquarium. Riotorto and Vignale are two small inhabited centers located in a charming location between the hill and the coast, full of endless clear and fine sandy beaches and transparent seabeds. Along this stretch of coastline you can see areas of great value, such as the Sterpaia Coastal Park, the Montioni Nature Park and the WWF Nature Reserve of Orti Bottagone.

Nature - Near the sea, woods and wetlands alternate with a beautiful countryside full of vineyards, farms, cellars and crushers.
The WWF Oras Bottagone Nature Park, an enchanting wetland, extends for about 100 hectares with two marshes: Bottagone, freshwater, cane, where the lily of the lake, the rush and the orchids and Orti grow , salami steak. Numerous species of birds live here, some nesting and others are present only at certain times of the year. These include the swordfish, the rider of Italy, the red heron, the white heron, the pink flamingo and the osprey. In the oasis there is a nature trail and two nature observers.

The Montioni Nature Park, a thick forest of oak, cork, linden, lentil and alfalfa, where roe deer and squirrels live, stands out against the blue background of the sea. The paths, reported, develop between plants of heather, broom and orchids. In the Punta Falcone Park, nestled between the Gulf of Salivoli and Calamoresca, entrance to the Baratti-Populonia Park, itineraries of remarkable naturalistic, seaside, historical and landscape importance arise. The Sterpaia Coastal Park is a precious and rare wet forest, typical of the ancient coastal landscape of Maremma, where century-old plants and a small fauna live. A system of sand dunes separates the forest of oaks and oaks from the sea, bordered by long white beaches. Here you can enjoy all the sea sports and go for nature trails, ideal for walking, cycling and horseback riding.

Nessun problema nemmeno durante check in e check out.
