Hurgada or, as the Egyptians call it 'El Ghardaka', was up to twenty years ago, a small fishing village although appreciated since the Pharaonic era for its white beaches and its clear and crystalline sea. During the last years the whole coast of Egypt running along the Red Sea has become very famous for its beauty, so that Sharm El Sheikh is considered one of the most enchanting cities of this coast. Even Hurgada has developed a lot in recent years, befoming one of the most well-known destinations, sought after and frequented by tourists from all over the world. Every year more and more visitors spend their vacations in this place full of contradictions: wealth and poverty, history and technology, desert aridity and multicolored backdrops, modest hotels and luxury villages. Discovered and made famous by underwater tourism, Hurgada has at first seen the birth of the first diving centers. Around the end of the Eighties, President Sadat opened the way for the construction of the first hotels, but it was in conjunction with the reopening of the frontiers and, above all, with the return of Sinai to Egypt in 1982, that Hurghada saw the explosion of diving centres and tourism facilities that began to rise one after the other. Hurghada is located almost at the mouth of the Suez Canal and 600 kilometers from Cairo and currently, this long chain of hotels can ideally divide into three areas: along the Coast we have the beach area with hotels and beaches; then there is Sakkara which is the real center with the old port and finally we have Dahar which is the modern, commercial and residential area.
