Montauro and surroundings

The Squillace Gulf extends from Cape Colonna (near Crotone) to Punta Stilo (near the coasts of Riace where the famous Bronzes were found). A stretch of sea among the most suggestive of the Calabrian coast, that Ionian sea that keeps the testimonies of the flourishing civilization of Magna Grecia, and today renowned tourist area with the beautiful balnearied resorts its ancient hamlets perched on the slopes of the hills. The territory is characterized by long beaches reflecting in a crystalline sea towards which degraded hills dotted with citrus, vineyards and olive groves. Along the coast, Mediterranean vegetation is dominated by arboreal and shrubby species, predominantly evergreen, able to withstand the salty winds blowing from the sea (heather, oleander, rosemary, caper). Very common is the broom, which grows in shrubs in arid and exposed areas. Behind him, a few kilometers away, the green and lush green buttresses of the Serra with chestnut, pine, fir and beech forests.
The lush forests of the aghifoglie (pines and fir trees) and the dewdrops (holm oaks, chestnuts and beech trees) have a luxuriant undergrowth with typical vegetation consisting essentially of ferns and berries (very common strawberries) and mushrooms of every species.
