Pescasseroli and its surroundings

Pescasseroli is lying in a basin at the entrance to the High Valley of the Sangro at m. 1167 on the sea level. This plateau rich in pastures is surrounded by centuries-old woods and impressive mountains. Pescasseroli is a country where the symbiosis between nature and architecture is evident: the town is in perfect harmony with the natural wonders surrounding it. The urban core, in a flat position, developed around the ancient abbey and is characterized by traditional stone and mortar masonry, adorned by special windows with local cut stone joints, called "gentle stone" by the name of ' homonymous mountain. Sannico Square, so called for the presence of a church that has disappeared today, is the centerpiece of Pescasseroli's life: it is colored by beech trees and scented by the small lilac flowers and is adorned, as well as from the town hall, by a graceful fountain, surmounted by a statue of the Immaculate.
The National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise is the oldest park in Italy renowned internationally for the role played in the conservation of some of the most important faunistic species in Italy, such as wolf, chamois of Abruzzo, brown bear, and for the first and numerous initiatives for the modernization and localization of environmentalism. It is covered with beech for about two-thirds of its surface. It extends predominantly in mountainous and pastoral areas where crop and vines are not practicable, ending in the cultivation plan of the valleys of Giovenco and Val di Comino.
