Roseto Capo Spulico and its surroundings
Roseto Capo Spulico among the most beautiful seaside resorts in Calabria, only recently discovered is full of history and important testimonies of the past, characteristic of the Castle near the beach
The town of Roseto Capo Spulico is nestled in a stretch of coastline of Alto Jonio Cosentino, in front of the clear and crystal clear sea. Coming from the Ionic State, we take a branch that winds in front of the sea and rises to the center of the X sec. overlooking the coast. Here we can visit the medieval old town: we find the Immaculate Church overlooking a panoramic square; the Castrum Roseti, the small castle in the historic center where it seems Pythagoras retreats to meditate and that the popular legend indicates as "the palace of Eolo; the Ethnographic Museum, one of the most important in Calabria; the Church of Santa Maria della Consolazione of the sec. XIV. The visit is enjoyable in this quiet place, where agricultural traditions are still lively. It is no coincidence that the roses name originates from the cultivation of roses, which was practiced here in the days of the Greeks and the Romans, to give the princesses of Siberia, a comfortable bed of rose petals on which to rest.
We descend to the sea, walk through the whole Achee promenade, we arrive at the end of the North, where there is a big rock that has become a symbol of the coast of the high Jonio Cosentino. It is the Anvil Scoglestation, from the premises called the fungus. The rock is located on the beach, under the cliff, the overhanging one on the sea that houses Castrum Petrae Roseti, the castle of Roseto stone, a medieval castle overlooking the sea of the sec. XI of national interest. The castle, in its long dresses, the slender towers, seems to have been built where an ancient pagan temple dedicated to Venus was first built. In the same place was then built by the Basilian fathers a place of Christian worship desired by San Vitale. It was around the second century. XI that the Normans built on the former ruins of the first castle building. In the 13th century, it was Frederick II of Swabia, to restructure it and give it the present splendor. In the last few decades, Roseto Capo Spulico has become an important destination for seaside and cultural tourism, thanks to the splendid beaches of the coast, with a waterfront more than a mile and a half in length, known as the Achei promenade, for frequenting these coasts from the Hellenic populations, and for the Federico Castle, to which historical facts and legends are known throughout the world. It seems that the Castle has become by Federico II a place of religious and Templar contemplation; various elements, such as the coat of arms embellished on the portal of the Castrum, the family of the Rose Cross, or the "octopus" with impressed the Templar symbols of the Mystical Lamb and of the Cross and the Lily, support it a now assured statement. Other studies on found stone traces allow us to believe that the Holy Shroud was transited from here during the time of the federal kingdom and who knows that the Sacred Grail is not hidden here. Capo Spulico is a popular tourist destination in Calabria, both as a holiday destination for seaside and as a place rich in history and culture, and the two things together make Roseto Capo Spulico one of the most beautiful tourist resorts in Calabria, what attracts tourists are the beautiful beaches, long stretches of sand and of pebbles, leading to the crystal clear sea, nothing to envy the Caribbean, but above all the fascination of legendary events that interweave real events that have marked the history of humanity.
