Rhodes and surroundings

Rhodes is the largest island in the Dodecanese and one of the most beautiful islands in Greece, located near Tilos and Chalki in the north and Karpathos in the west. Rhodes is one of the most touristic islands in Greece like the island of Kos, Crete, Santorini, Mykonos and Corfu. Rhodes is one of the busiest islands in Greece. From ancient times to our days, Rhodes attracts travelers and tourists for its many natural beauties. With more than 300 days of sunshine a year Rhodes has been dubbed "the pearl of the Aegean Sea", sung by poets as "Island of Roses" and "Bride of the Sun". Rhodes attracts the attention of thousands of tourists coming from Worldwide. To the whitewashed and blue-trimmed houses, the imposing public palaces and the greenery of the parks and nature of Rhodes, contrasts with the view of the old city, with buildings and ruins of the ancient splendor of the island during the Hellenic, Roman and Byzantine.Despite certainly, the medieval city of the Knights Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem, surrounded by high walls and in a good state of conservation, with its castles and palaces, buildings of the Byzantine era, and architecture of Turkish origin. of Rhodes is located in the northern part of the island. The new city is characterized by modern buildings, with wide streets, shops, squares and monuments, and picturesque neighborhoods that wind through neoclassical houses, Byzantine churches and Turkish mosques.The tourism industry has stimulated the growth of many infrastructures, hotels modern, night clubs, taverns, restaurants and numerous shopping centers. Many interesting sites to visit in Rhodes. Particularly interesting are the municipal gardens, as well as the Museum of Rhodes, which, among the finds of great interest, offers the famous Venus of Rhodes. A short excursion outside the capital will allow you to reach the ancient city of Lindos, with its spectacular temple of Athena and the acropolis that stand on a promontory overlooking the sea. A rocky massif with a triangular shape below which stands the beautiful city, where you get lost in a maze of alleys and streets. Lindos is more reminiscent of the style of a Cycladic island, despite being in the Dodecanese. What to visit in Rhodes: The windmills, the tower of Aghios Nikolaos in the port of Mandraki, and the park of Rodini. There are also hundreds of tourist articles shops waiting for visitors, with their great heritage of hidden treasures.
Beautiful taverns overlooking the sea, and do not miss a ride on the back of a mule for those who do not want to walk to visit the other attractions offered by the city of Rhodes.
mills of RhodesThese are the ruins of the ancient city on the hill overlooking the capital, in Monte Smith, the Myrat Reis mosque and the Souleiman mosque, the Hydrobiological Institute, and the many churches, Agios Fragiskos, Panagia Nikis, the True Cross , Panagia Kastrou, Profitis Ilias and Evangelistira, a few kilometers outside the city, where you can admire beautiful frescoes by the Greek artist Kondoglou.Interesting the medieval part of the town, dominated by the high walls that surround it, with the imposing Palace of Grand Master, memory of the glorious and fascinating past of the city.All to visit the museums of Rhodes, of extreme interest. The Archaeological Museum, housed in the ancient Hospital of the Knights, which includes sculptures, vases and various finds of considerable value, and the Folklore Museum which exhibits an interesting collection of traditional costumes and everyday objects.Entracting in the port of Mandraki you can see the two pillars that identify the ancient position of the base of the famous Colossus of Rhodes. The city of Rhodes is essentially divided into two parts: the "old city", surrounded by a double row of high walls and the "new city" , which, in addition to the differences in architecture and urban planning also have a distinct personality. Both, however, have a distinctive mark, that of welcoming tourists.

- la camera matrimoniale (letti singoli, uniti, ma con uno spessore di circa 10 cm che ci separava);

+/- non c'era tv;

+/- non avevamo phon per capelli (dovevamo chiederlo alla reception giornalmente e riportarlo perché l'unico disponibile doveva servire per tutti i clienti dell'albergo);

- comodini semi-rotti;

- poca pulizia nelle camere: le asciugamani non venivano cambiate, ma ripiegate e messe a posto. Ma scherziamo?!? Io le lascio a terra e domani le trovo sul letto?!? Da non credere;
