Rhodes is the largest island in the Dodecanese and one of the most beautiful islands of Greece, located near Tilos and Halki on the north and, on the west side, Karpathos. Rhodes is one of the most touristic islands in Greece, as well as the islands of Kos, Crete, Santorini, Mykonos and Corfu. Rhodes is one of the most popular islands of Greece. From ancient times up to the present day Rhodes attracted travelers and tourists to its many natural beauties. With more than 300 sunny days a year, Rhodes has been nicknamed "the pearl of the Aegean sea", sung by poets as "Island of Roses" and "Bride of the Sun". Rodi attracts the attention of thousands of tourists worldwide. Its white and blue houses, grand public buildings and green parks and nature contrast with the views of the old town, with buildings and ruins of the ancient splendor of the island during the Greek, Roman and Bizantine domination. The medieval city of the Hospitallers Knights of St. John of Jerusalem, surrounded by high walls and in good conservation conditions, with its castles and palaces, Byzantine-era buildings and turkish architectures surely deserves a visit. The town of Rhodes is located in the northern part of the island. The new city is characterized by modern buildings, with wide streets, shops, squares and monuments, picturesque neighborhoods that wind through neoclassical houses, Byzantine churches and Turkish mosques. The turistic industry stimulated the growth of many infrastructures, modern hotels, night clubs, taverns, restaurants and numerous shopping malls. Of great interest, the municipal gardens, as well as the Museum of Rhodes, which, among the finds, offers the famous Venus of Rhodes. A trip outside the capital city will allow you to reach the ancient city of Lindos, with its spectacular temple of Athena and the acropolis that stand on a cliff overlooking the sea. On a triangular massif below stands the beautiful city, where you can get lost in a maze of narrow streets. Lindos is more reminiscent of the style of an island of the Cyclades, despite lying in the Dodecanese.
