Longobardi Marina and surroundings
The coast of ancient villages
Longobards along with other municipalities, is a component of that area that is emerging as The Coast of the Ancient Villages, otherwise known as the South Tyrrhenian Cosentino. A short distance from Lamezia Airport (30 minutes by car), which is the sum of a spectacular landscape, consisting of the combination of sea, mountains, pine forests and ancient villages where, still today, rites and traditions that elsewhere are just a reminder. The coastal communes are Amantea, Belmonte Calabro, Longobardi, Fiumefreddo Bruzio, Falconara Albanese and San Lucido, while the communes in the hinterland are Lago, Cleto, San Pietro in Amantea, Aiello and Serra d'Aiello.
In addition to the spectacular nature of the landscape, precisely because of the combination of sea and mountains, as well as the undisturbed beauty of medieval villages, one of the features that make the Costa dei Borghi Antichi a tourist destination throughout the year and not only for summer bathing , is the microclimate. In practice it is always spring and winter in this place, it is certainly better than wintering between smog, traffic and the number plates.
Longobardi
former farmhouse of Fiumefreddo B. is a small village on the hill, from which you can enjoy a spectacular view of Stromboli. On the surrounding hills, besides a pine forest equipped for walks and picnics, for lovers, it is also possible to take long horseback rides, among centuries-old pines and ferns. In the village you can visit the House of Culture, the Mother Church and the house of Blessed Nicola
Belmonte Calabro
located on a rocky promontory overlooking the sea, is a medieval village whose construction around its castle began in the Angevin era, around 1270. The urban system is still perfectly intact and is characterized by lanes and staircases, from some noble palaces and from the panoramic view overlooking the hill dedicated to the monument of Michele Bianchi. Of great interest are the ruins of the castle, today a municipal library, where Galeazzo di Tarsia composed its poetic verses and the small Museum of Farming. Belmonte C. is the home of the giant tomato, the only tomato with a deco label.
Amantea
is the most important trade center in the whole area. With its 13,000 inhabitants, it is also the most populous town on the Coast of the Ancient Villages. On the surrounding hills, overlooked by the ruins of the castle destroyed by the French in 1806, the ancient village of picturesque appearance is an attraction for many visitors, also for the numerous workshops of artists (painters and sculptors) that are settled there. To visit the monumental monastery of San Bernardino, where are also conserved works by Bernini and Cagini, the Palace of the Clarisse, where a unique pinacoteca of its kind is exposed: over 100 works, all fake of the author. Of great interest in folklore, the Sunday Market, unique in its kind, because sellers are not walking, but the peasants who wear on the benches are the fruit of their work. Large-scale signatures are banned.
Fiumefreddo Bruzio
is the most evocative medieval village of the entire Coast of the Ancient Villages. He is included in the club of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The churches, the two ancient restored convents, the noble palaces and the overlooking the sea of Piazzale della Torretta, the alleys, are the points of great tourist attraction. Not far from the village is the Castello della Valle, built by Roberto il Guiscardo around 1050, now partially restored, after being destroyed by the cannonists of French general Renyer in 1806. The Castle of Della Valle, since 2007, is also Monument to All the wars. In the Castle Desire Room, some of the works that Salvatore Fiume devoted to the town have been admired after having been stunned in 1974. Other artworks are admirable in the Church of San Rocco, adjacent to the Door of the Sea. Falconara Albanese, the village of "ghegghi" is located in a half-hillside location, sheltered.
San Lucido
among the countries of the Coast of the Ancient Villages is the only one that boasts the ancient village directly overlooking the sea and, in fact, fishing lives, in addition to commercial services. It is the country that gave birth to Cardinal Ruffo, and it is the seaport that in 1536 was destroyed by a rocket caused by the saracen pirate Karadin, also called "Il Barbarossa".
St. Peter in Amantea
is a small village in the hinterland, whose main square is characterized by a monumental fountain located beneath the fringes of a secular oak. In its surrounding forests are harvested fine mushrooms and cultivated land, vines of "Magliocco" and "Marcigliano", "Merlot" and "Cabernet", producing high quality wines.
Lake
in the area of the Coast of the Ancient Villages, is the mountain village, although it is very close to the sea. It is surrounded by thick woods, where you can enjoy healthy and comfortable walks in the spring and in the fall you can pick precious mushrooms and chestnuts. Famous Lake pizzas and just as famous are the capicollo and the suppressed ones.
Aiello
boasts the most beautiful eighteenth-century square of the Coast of the Ancient Villages, where it shows beautifully the prestigious Palazzo di Cibo Malaspina, a clone of that building that exists in Massa Carrara. It was the town of notaries and lawyers, it was the fortress guarded by the road that led from the sea to the ancient Pandosia, now Cosenza. It is the country that gave birth to 2 popes, 8 cardinals and dozens of bishops.
Serra d'Aiello
is a microscopic and sunny hilly village where recently excavations have brought to light precious and important archaeological finds of an indigenous civilization, therefore Greek and not Roman, all kept in the Antiquarium museum, guided and managed by Franco Frojo.
Cleto
is perched on top of Monte Sant'Angelo, with its almost completed restoration castle, dominates the entire Savuto Valley, also known as the Valley of Silence. In this valley there are about 130,000 olive trees planted on the 700,000 plants surveyed by an appropriate office in the whole of the coast of the Tyrrhenian Cosentino. They produce about 20,000 quintals of extra virgin olive oil every year.

In 7 giorni abbiamo avuto doccia fredda all'improvviso già insaponati per cambio bombolone gas....
A forse 70 anni.
PS. Dimenticavo..
