Grisolia Lido and surroundings

Center of medieval origin, the village has three residential areas: the new or lido area close to the sea, the intermediate zone near the railway station or marine area and the core of the historical center. Inside Grisolia is an intrigue of alleys, stairs, arches and supports. The alleys are innumerable and different from each other in length and width. A characteristic of the architecture of the historic center and the support, in dialect the spuortu, covered sections where the houses are one against the other. Particularly widespread in buildings, it is the stone of Grisolia. Clay tiles, in the ceramili dialect, are widely used in roofing. This motif appears so widespread that it can be considered recurrent in the construction of the Greek art. The latter form a scalloped singular effect with the hanging on the wall. The walls are left rough and not plastered. The buildings are distinguished by size, style and age. Among them stand the Palazzo Ducale, which dates back to the fifteenth century, now owned by the city; The Palazzo de Patto in the castle area and the Palazzo Tosto above the spuorto of Via Sotto le Mura. In the streets meet the alleys, vanelle, once almost all arranged in stone steps, today, porphyry floors with decorative elements and river pebbles. In the upper part of the village we have the Sanctuary of San Rocco da Montpellier, a pilgrimage destination especially in the month of August, it is named after the Madonna delle Grazie; which can be reached via the spuortu of Via Chiesa.
